Books can take me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Here is how I like books to make me feel.
Happy
It’s an obvious one, but I read because I enjoy it and it gives me happiness. Just to be reading makes me joyful, no matter what type of book I am reading. I make a point of reading daily because it is time for myself that I treasure and find very meditative.
Apprehensive
I won’t say I like books to frighten me, but I do like to be unsettled and unnerved by a gripping thriller that twists and turns its way to its conclusion. A book that keeps me on the edge of my seat, and has me thinking about it when I’m in the supermarket or making my breakfast.
Comforted
We all have books and authors that we go back to because they make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. A book that feels like a hug, or a hot cup of tea. There’s nothing better than curling up with a book like this of an evening and smiling on the inside.
Puzzled
I like an Agatha Christie style murder mystery that keeps me guessing. Eligible suitors, stylish young women, beautiful mansions and plenty of motives… There’s always several suspects and I like to be carried along by the investigation.
Involved
I love it when books drag you into the pages and you feel that you know the characters. Any kind of genre can do this to you but at the same time, it’s a special kind of author that takes you through the character’s emotions so intimately. You feel elated at their success, crushed when they fail, and grief if they die.
