My first week as a runner with C25k

preparing for running

Yes, I’ve taken up running. I don’t really understand why, but the urge to begin running as part of my path to wellness has come upon me, and I do wonder what alien lifeforce has possessed me.

But, it can only be a good thing as I really do want to be fitter and running seems a good way of achieving that.

However, once I felt that urge to run, I didn’t know how to put it into action. Surely I wouldn’t be able to run non-stop for longer than a couple of minutes, and it would be better to ease myself into a running routine?

I was really glad to find the Couch to 5k app (C25k), which promises to take you from being a couch potato to being able to run for 30 minutes by following a 9 week training schedule.

I have now completed the first week which includes 3 runs, consisting of a warm up and cool down walk and alternates running for 60 seconds with walking for 90 seconds.

It’s a really encouraging app and, dare I say it, I am actually running and completing the training!

I am not taking any notice of speed at the moment; I am literally just putting one foot in front of the other, which is a good way to do most things in life.

I’m really surprised at how much I enjoy the runs, and look forward to the next one! I am a bit worried that my motivation will wane as the weather turns colder and wetter, so I’m already planning runs into my schedule and finding suitable winter running clothes.

Let’s see where this running lark takes me!

What do you do as part of an exercise regime, and do you enjoy it?
