Previously I have enjoyed The Ice Cream Girls and The Women He Loved Before by this author, so it didn’t take long to decide I wanted to read this book. She writes very compelling novels with a twist and a dash of crime and mystery. Dorothy Koomson doesn’t sit easily in the chick lit genre; she is probably a bit closer to Jodi Piccoult.
In this novel, Tamia Challey has a happy life and marriage. She has two daughters and adores them. Then her husband Scott is arrested and she is catapulted into hell, in a heartbreaking situation involving her two best friends.
I didn’t feel any connection to Tamia or her friends, even though all of them take turns as narrator. It was very hard to relate to any of them. The main reaction I had to a character was how I felt towards Scott. He was a very repulsive man and I found it hard to reconcile Tamia’s love for him in my mind, plus he got off too lightly.
I did read this book voraciously because I wanted to unravel the mystery. This was a plot driven book, and I was really held spellbound by the ending. If you want a dark, intriguing read, grab this.
